About the Author

Robert Lee Frost was born in San Francisco in 1874. When he was ten, his father died and he and his mother moved to New England. He attended school at Dartmouth and Harvard, worked in a mill, taught, and took up farming, before he moved to England, where his first books of poetry, A Boy’s Will (1913) and North of Boston (1914), were published. North of Boston brought him recognition as the preeminent voice of New England and as one of America’s major poets. In 1915 he returned to the United States and settled on a farm in New Hampshire. Four volumes of his poetry, New Hampshire (1923), Collected Poems (1930), A Further Range (1936), and A Witness Tree (1942) were all awarded the Pulitzer Prize. He died in 1963.Susan Jeffers is the illustrator of such distinguished picture books as Three Jovial Huntsmen, a Caldecott Honor book; Rachel Field's Hitty; and the ABBY Award-winning Brother Eagle, Sister Sky, which was also a New York Times besteller. She lives in New York.

great book, the description doesn't really make clear that this little books is really a sort of a kids edition with only this poem in it and illustrations for each line on each page.

This is my go-to baby shower gift; Frost’s evocative poem is appreciated by children, and the illustrations (for my tastes) really capture the magic of that sacred moment. This was the first poem my son memorized. This beautiful little book opened the door for an appreciation for poetry that persists in his teenage years. Also, this book is a gift that the bigger kids in the family can enjoy and even read to the little ones.

My favorite poem since I was a kid (now 75), it's in a beautifully illustrated book. Every kid should have a copy of this poem and keep it forever......... or hand it down to their kids..

This particular poem is my favorite Robert Frost poem, and is one of my top five favorite poems. I was hoping that this book would portray the simple beauty and nuances of this poem, to read to my granddaughter. It more than met my expectations. Even my husband, who is a photographer and who doesn't read as much as I do, found the artwork in this book to convey beautifully the words of Frost's poem.This poem was not intended for children, and has many facets to it. But good poetry must be taught and appreciated early, and this book will help parents and teachers to show appreciation for poetry. If it doesn't start with the parents and teachers, then the children are never exposed to it.Whenever I read this poem, and now this book, it conveys a sense of peace, a sense of being quiet, of learning to look for the beauty in the world around you. I remember this poem from 4th grade (I am now 40). Even to this day, I could recite the 1st four lines and I haven't read the poem since 4th grade....until now. I now have a 3 yr old daughter and am searching for books to read to her above her age level. Seeking to introduce her to various subjects, authors, etc. Remembering this poem, I went specifically in search of it and found this book. I LOVE it! And so does my daughter. I love the gentleness of the illustrations, the little splash of color and the quietness it offers. My daughter loves the color, the horse and various animals, and, as any child does, searching for the hidden animals in some of the pages. When we sit and read this book, it's not just a one time reading. It's at least 4 times. I highly recommend this book not just for the literary benefit, but also for the little bit of quiet snuggling time you get........What can be better than that?

Susan Jeffer's illustrations are always delightful. I purchased the hardcover edition and was disappointed by how little the book is. I neglected to check it's measurements. Perhaps the paperback edition is larger.

This is such a gorgeous book. My daughter fell in love with poetry when she was very little, I'm sure this book had a part in that. She wanted it for her son for Christmas. Because it's re-released in a hardcover format (with a beautiful slip cover) I'm sure it will become a family heirloom. Books are heirlooms in our family!

This is a good book, but it's not as great on its own. The book is designed as a support material for the BerkeleyX 169.1x and 169.2x courses. This means you'll take more advantage of the book by taking those courses yourself.Anyway, the book (and the course as well) is a very good reference on current effective practices on Software Engineering. If you read it, it might work to keep you up to date with good software development practices, taking Software as a Service and Agile Development as it's core topics.Both the book and the course are meant for people with more-than-rookie programming skills, so you won't get too much from it if you're a still beginner. Anyway, you might use it as reference, and it will give you good and useful information.It's not a book on programming, it's a book on Software Engineering, even though it uses Ruby on Rails as the language-and-framework set for explaining all the concepts and practices covered. The main reason why the book and course features Ruby on Rails instead of other languages and frameworks is the fact that, according to the authors' opinion, it's a perfectly suited technology (maybe the best) for fast and productive Agile Development.

Finally, a modern/comprehensive explanation of developing high-quality, scalable web applications. If you think SaaS (web applications run on a browser) is the future, you must read this book. It's very well written and explains many concepts well from high level to low-level like i've never read before. Some concepts I've read over and over in other books but were explained perfectly in the first pass!

The e-book is well written and Kindle provides functions such as highlighting, inserting notes, dictionary, book marking, and skipping to the desired section through bookmarks and the table of contents. I gave it 4 stars because there are no page numbers but instead location numbers which are difficult to remember and do not correspond to homework assignments. The e-book provides live links to code snippets and websites that makes it convenient and allows quick access to material. I would recommend this e-book to other customers.

The author recommends using the ebook version, but the ebook version has horrendous formatting. The content of the book talks about software that is no longer supported. They are several versions behind in both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. In fact, I believe the versions used in the book are no longer supported.The videos are not well produced, and are also not updated. Save yourself some money and read/do an online tutorial of Ruby. Then do the Ruby on Rails guide. Then pick a better book on what you need. Want to learn Saas, then buy a real SaaS book. This book is largely just fluff you would expect from a 3 day seminar your company makes you go to. It doesn't go into any real world cases, and it doesn't do security from the start. Any development process these days must include security from the beginning.

I teach software engineering at CSU Monterey Bay. This book is an excellent source of software engineering concepts. While I am not currently teaching Ruby and Rails in my course, the rest of the book is highly valuable. Much better, more up to date and relevant, than the traditional textbooks on Software Engineering by Sommerville or by Pressman in my opinion. -- David Wisneski

I used this book together with the EDX (SaaS1 and 2) courses taught by the same authors.I just can recommend it to anybody who wants to learn about agile software development, cloud computing (especially SaaS), the MVC architectureand get experience with the Ruby on Rails (RoR) framework, as they choose it for software development. It is not for Ruby beginners, but at the beginning of the course they recommend some good sources to get warm-up with Ruby (and RoR).I really warmly recommend the book and the course to anybody, you will enjoy it!

Very useful tool for class. If the teacher recommends you get it, you might as well because it's only $10. The explanations of the concepts in the book aren't very straight forward and you might have to look to other sources to fully understand them. However, the author does a good job incorporating GitHub repositories that are useful in learning Ruby. Overall a useful tool and pretty cheap for a college textbook.

Not the bestest book ever, I'll be honest and say that I didn't read very far into it. Not super engaging, but I needed it for a class so it served its purpose.

So many spelling mistakes and typos that it made me not trust the content. Also a really odd note from the author that basically said if you’re a first time parent it’s hard to raise vegan babies and might be overwhelming. Not very encouraging or inspirational! Some good recipes and nutrition info but all seems like it was written by a non-native speaker and not proof-read.

Good starter recipes with great proportions. The only downside is the typos.

The book is more like a pamphlet. Not a lot in it.

This is a very small book, consisting mainly of diagrams. In my opinion, it is much like a power point presentation: you would have had to have been there. No doubt of much use to the student attending the Bauhaus when Klee taught there, I can only quote the dedication on the title page of my second-hand copy 'Finished with dismay on 10-16-64'.Obviously created with much care and labor, I missed any message that the author has to give. In view of the beautiful art that this man produced, I end with the feeling that my confusion is due to my insufficiency rather than his.

This is a book I deeply enjoyed, it has a mix of Greek Mythology and Fantasy. The authors created a plausible young Odysseus, it doesn’t feel out of place or character. Its Odysseus through and through, and for me that adds a lot of value to the story.Odysseus is a theios, “god-touched” awakened by Athena that offered him her protection. He was sceptic about the gods to later discover they were real and mankind is at their mercy. He’s also portrayed as idealistic, I would like to highlight his conversation with Bria about honor: “‘I thought Athena stood for honour.’ ‘Honour? No, she stands for logic, and logic has little place for irrational concepts like honour.”Sometimes I felt as if the book goes in separate ways with Homer’s original story, nevertheless, the authors always manage to bring the story back to the original. It has a good ending and I look forward to the next book in the series.I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Continuing on my historical fantasy kick, on the heels of Son of Zeus I now have fellow god-titled novel Athena’s Champion.After professing my love for Heracles in the earlier review, this follows the early exploits of another favourite, Odysseus.For those who’ve read the Iliad and the Odyssey, or those who haven’t, some scholars believe the two stories to be social parables, detailing change in Greek society, and their argument is not without merit. Having read Athena’s Champion, the author also echoes some of those changes. .We meet a young Odysseus, on the day when his fate will be announced by the oracle. Needless to say, it does not go according to plan, and Odysseus is forced to leave his home of Ithaca for the wide world beyond - and boy are his eyes opened. The times are changing. Some of the heroes of old are still kicking around, and they do not meet the standards of our young hero. We meet Theseus, for example, who is strong and brave, but also a drunkard, brutish and quick to anger, acting first and thinking later. Odysseus, on the other hand, Is short (by heroic standards), quick-witted and asks questions incessantly, much to the ire of the old minotaur slayer.This is no biography though. There is a plot here, and a fine one at that. In the vein of social change, the gods are at war too. Having maintained a tenuous alliance for millenia (or so), Zeus is making a power play for sole rulership of Olympus. Needless to say, the other gods take umbrage and fight back. With Zeus looking to consolidate his power (by gaining worshippers), the other gods fear they will fade away into non-existence like the gods of old. But the gods cannot interact with humans directly, hence they need us pesky mortals to do their dirty work on earth.Odysseus receives his patronage from Athena, which comes with heightened senses and skills, faster healing and so forth, but he’s still young, and takes a few beatings from the more experienced theloi (god-blessed)along the way. However,his smarts keep him alive and kicking, and our hero starts on the journey that will lead him to his famous Odyssey, which I’ve only mentioned about 30 times.Earlier I mentioned Son of Zeus,and this is very different in tone, far less dark, but also vaster in scope. The characters are great, from Odysseus and boorish Theseus, to the gods who are just as petty and cruel as the old Hercules TV show claimed. Even the future battle of Troy is set up as far more than an angry cuckold trying to maintain his ego. I really enjoyed this,and I’ve had some time to mull it over before I wrote this review. I’ve got to say, if I hadn’t already written my top 10 of 2018, this would definitely have made it.An epic 5/5 stars.

What a thrilling read ATHENA'S CHAMPION was. Odysseus has long been a favorite hero of mine and when I saw this book and read the blurb did I just knew that I had to read the book. The book is action filled and I love how David Hair and Cath May right from the start make Odysseus life miserable. Well, that sounds bad, but just think about his little trip home from Troy that lasted a little longer than expected. Odysseus discovery about his heritage at the beginning of the book and all the obstacles, later on, will just show that he's on a road to more obstacles in the future...I really liked this new take on Odysseus life. How he learns more about the world and about the Gods. Not to mention all he learns about himself. I like how the myth of Prometheus is added to the story and the struggle between the Gods for power. Poor Odysseus is but a pawn in the hands of Athena, but he proves quickly that he is very cunning.As a big fantasy fan historical fiction fan was this book a real winner for me. David Hair and Cath Mayo have written a great book that makes me eager to get the next book in the series. I was a bit worried that the book would end up with a cliffhanger, but I found the ending satisfying. This is definitely a book to read if you like Greek mythology and/or historical fiction about gods and heroes.

I may be biased because my name is Athena and I love anything related to mythology and Greece, but this was also a great story.The description briefly states that the book is "The first in a thrilling new historical fantasy series; Odysseus must embrace his secret heritage and outwit the vengeful Gods who would control or destroy him… "Enter a snarky version of Odysseus, Theseus, and the Gods and Goddesses in the authors' unique interpretations, and you have quite an interesting story. I especially loved how they portrayed Athena and Hades.I had to suspend the known story at times and take their telling for what it is, but the book was still terribly entertaining for me. I liked the splashes of Greek words and especially insults thrown into the dialogue, but wish they had kept to traditional insults vs bringing in so much modern day slang.This book earns a solid 4/5 stars, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who likes a good history, mythology, or fantasy based read!
